Valentine Ball Reviews

Review by Millie

The Valentines ball organised by young Brahmins Association was fabulous. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly faces and the champagne reception gave everybody a chance to mingle. The décor was very much in team with romance and valentines and the whole atmosphere oozed with happy vibes and laughs. The food was lovely and if I had more room in my stomach, I would have had more. A good selection of music for every taste which made me want to stay on the dance floor the whole night and the photographers done a very good job as well. Overall it was really enjoyable, a wonderful night!!

However, putting all that aside, the main purpose for this event was to collect
donation for the British Heart Foundation. This charity for me personally is very close my heat both physically as well as emotionally. The charity helps many people within the UK who are suffering from some numerous heart problems and help support and educate them and their families into how to live with the disease as well as doing pioneering research into which it is renowned for within the scientific field. I am one of those very blessed individuals who got the opportunity to have support from this charity.

I was born with congenital heart defect which meant I had a hole in my heart and my tricuspid valve was in the incorrect place. This caused a lot of problems whilst I was growing up. I could not walk much, was very blue in the face due to backflow of deoxygenated blood and was always not well. I could not take part in PE in school, took me forever to walk up the road and generally found everything a bit of a struggle. However, with the support of the British Heart Foundation I was able to find support even at the age of seven where they had organised monthly magazines delivered to me about how I should look after my heart, stories of children like me and means of living happy like every child should. I felt a sense of belonging and felt that I was not alone. Throughout my life I have had numerous surgeries which without such immense and intense research, some of those procedures would have been not possible and I would have not been here to tell the tale. With god’s grace I am now well and enjoying life. These people are truly doing an amazing job, they are helping people like myself. I am just one individual. There are many like me in this country and I think we all should appreciate that we have such amazing charities in this country that give a sense of hope to all types of people from all walks of life. I am truly blessed and I am truly delighted to be invited to be guest speaker at this event. It is a topic that I am very much passionate about and I would like people especially in the ethnic minority communities to appreciate charities like this who have changed peoples’ lives. Thank you for giving me such a rare opportunity to share my story and help people realise the significance of such phenomenal charities.

Thank you.

The valentines dinner and dance was a wonderful night. It was filled with the right sort of entertainment and music.
The DJ played really well, I thought it was a good mix of Bhangra, Hindi and English music, really enjoyable.

The table decor was really well laid out and presented however i did think that the walls were a bit bare looking, i personally would have put some beautiful saris up, just to give it a little bit more of an Indian feel.

The fact that there was a professional photographer there was brilliant because thats not something you see at all dinner and dance events. He was amazing and the prices were really of good value, plus the fact that all the proceeds went to charity made it even more worthwhile.

It was really nice to see the majority of the brahm samaj there, generally people don't get to see others apart from navratri so it was nice to see them again at a different social gathering.

The only downside to the evening, in my opinion, was that the food was not as great as expected from the venue. However, all in all, the night was brilliant and because of this i would really be inclined to attend another young Brahmin's event.

Thank you x
